An Introduction to the Yuezhong Museum of Historical Images
The Yuezhong Museum of Historical Images,located in Shenzhen,China,is anon-government non-profit academic institution specialized in collecting,conserving,researching and exhibiting Chinese historical images.Our mission is to collect Chinese historical images scattered overseas and vernacular historical materials buried in the local community,so as to reveal the national and personal memories that are silenced in the authorized historical narrative.Our collections,acquired from both public institutions and private collectors,mainly include photos and motion pictures about China’s great wars,urban environment,people’s daily life and local customs in China since the early20th century;we also collect contemporary documentary films,military records and oral historical archives.
The museum is supported by our academic committee who provide guidance and direction to our development.Members of the committee include famous documentary directors,photographers,curators,journalists and scholars with expertise in history,visual studies and museology.Our emeritus directors are Professor Situ Zhaodun,senior professor of the Beijing Film Academy and Mr.John E.Easterbrook,former U.S.Army Colonel and the grandson of General Joseph Warren Stilwell.
